Pwllheli are Promoted!

After being deprived of several victories by the summer's rain, the weather gods finally decided to smile on Pwllheli as with a complete washout in the league on Saturday, this Sunday fixture brought a 9 wicket victory and promotion to Division One.

Visiting Abergele sportingly accepted the groundman and umpires decisions to start the game on a dampish track and this proved the correct decision as Pwllheli opening fast bowler Ben Jones had no trouble in completing his 8 overs bagging 2 wickets for 14 runs. 9-man Abergele manfully stuck to their task of batting out the overs but fell short in the 36th as leggie Mike Hughes claimed 5 quick victims for just 20 runs.

The sun now shone brightly as Neil Williams and Ben Jones took the Pwllheli response to 59 before wickie Davies had Jones caught behind, before Williams with an undefeated 40 saw his side to victory.

In the bar: Skipper Mike Hughes ...... first year as skipper and I am really indebted to all the players as this has been a real team effort; Neil Williams and Nadeem have scored many runs and Ben Jones has had an excellent 2nd half of the season, but really everyone has made contributions at critical times (like our close back-from-the-dead victory at Buckley). I thank Abergele for playing the game in a sporting manner and now go with the team to Halkyn next weekend for the last game with a victory meaning Pwllheli get the Champions spot...." no pressure!"
